Way Back When-esday

I am sharing my favorite picture of Zachary and I when he was a baby.
This picture shows everything that was in my heart
when I held him in my arms.

the love
the pride
the protectiveness
the responsibility
the pure happiness

I loved being his mommy.

Not Just for Babies

I listened to the conversation about what was happening on TV...

Zachary: You know the polar bear lives there, too
Neighbor: Yeah and the penguin

...a little bit later...

Zachary: That's a Panda Bear
Neighbor: It eats bamboo. Kung Fu Panda was a panda.
Zachary: Polar bears eat fish not bamboo.

Neighbor: Whoa! Did you see that?
Zachary: Cool!

So what was this program that had them so transfixed? Discovery? Zubumafoo??

Nope...

The moment it was over there was much grumbling and muttering about baby shows and how they had to turn it off to play big kid shows. I mean, come on, mom. Sheesh!

Note: They were under the impression that I was taking their picture drinking their Purple Cows, not enjoying Baby Einstein. Sneaky mama!!

Pack N Play Fun

Zachary was playing with his dinosaurs and I am sure you know what the result was with two crawling curious girls. So...he had an idea.

Olivia is not a big fan of this idea.
Her look says it all. She knows she is missing out. :-(

So he took pity on his poor sister.
So much better for Olivia.

Abby wanted in on the fun, too.

Olivia just wants his juice pouch.

So he left them to play.
(I LOVE Abby's face in this picture.
I can just hear her saying, "Cheese!")

BTW - Zachary was dressed up for 50's day that day complete with the slicked back hair.

I was prepared...

...for the changes I would see in them this first year
Absolutely 100% prepared myself for how much they...

would change

What I had not prepared for and what has totally thrown me into a tailspin is

How Much He...

has changed

Totally unprepared for that.

Way Back When-esday

Dateline: August/September 2005
Zach's age: 3 years old

This is what Zachary would do when Gary came to pick me up from a date or drop me off. He hadn't met him yet so he would stare out the window as he drove up to "check him out". This created quite the curiosity in him, so by the time I was ok with Gary meeting him he was super excited about it. It was a super smooth transition.

P.S. I miss that couch (it was a slip-cover) and those curtains (even if they are crooked). I made those curtains myself. It was the first time I got to decorate just for me with no one else to please. I loved every inch of that decor. ::sigh::

Heard from the front seat

Zachary: Mom, our bus driver said, "sh....." today. You know, the s-h- word?? The bad one.

Me in my head: Holy Crap! What the heck???

Me out loud: You mean, sh.....

...and you know, I just about said it. The really bad one, just to make sure they heard him right, but thank God I stopped myself just in time.

Zachary: YES! He said shut up!

Neighbor girl: Uh huh, he did (with plenty of vigorous nodding of the head and wide eyes)

Zachary: But not to us (quickly reassuring me)

WHEW!!

Thank you, Lord for holding my tongue.
I really didn't want to be the one to reach him that word.

Update on the kiddos

Olivia and Abigail have been oh so busy lately. They have been rolling like crazy all over the place and all over each other.

Abby has Olivia's pjs in her mouth

They have started to be aware of each other. They chatter on and on and
sometimes it seems like they talk to each other.

They are the best buds

Who else is best buds??

When Zach comes home from school, Abby just waves her arms like crazy
and jumps in my arms. She is so excited to see him.

Oh, the tags, the tags, how they love you.
They hit the mother load here.

This is also a favorite toy. It vibrates when they bite down on it.

Abby loves to pull hair; Olivia's, Zachary's, and mine. Ouch! She doesn't mean to hurt but poor Oliva. When she gets close enough she will just grab a handful.

Blueberries are a must-have these days.
Abby LOVES when I mix them with bananas.
It is a wonder she can poop at all with all the bananas this girl puts away.

Bath time is still fun time around here. We are putting them in the
big tub more and more. They love to splash and play.

My cute little mummies all wrapped up after their baths.
(They can't both smile big in one picture, can they?
Nope, they have to have their own picture.)

"What?? I didn't do it!"

Livy loves that finger.

We've been a little busy :-)

Ice has fallen here in Texas, in the form of sleet.

The funny thing is, everyone FREAKS OUT((!!!) over 1/4 inch of ice on the roads. Schools close, offices close, roads close; which is fine and dandy with me because that means we get a weekend in the middle of the week. Everyone hunkered down the past few days eating soup, enjoying our fire in the fireplace, and playing Lego Batman.

I have always had this insatiable urge to finish things.right.now! Well, not everything; laundry, cleaning, dishes, that project I started 2 months ago, yeah, not those things. But books, movies, puzzles, games, and yes, even Lego Batman. We got this magazine about the game because it is Zach's new favorite thing. He even wants his room to made over in it. So it has a walkthrough in it where they walk you through (hence the name, right?) each level of the game telling you hints, tricks, and ways to get all the bonus stuff. Well, we have had this game since before Christmas and he has gotten a lot of the bonus stuff, but needed a few more things that were sprinkled through 15 levels. As I sat down to help him play through a couple, I could feel it welling within me...that need.to.finish.ALL.the.levels.to.day! So we did only to have much disappointment in the "bonus level".

This is why I have to read ahead in books. I have the ending at my fingertips; to know how everything turns out, right there. I also tend to skip ahead a few pages and come back and read through that section, then skip ahead a few more hundred pages or so, then read back again. And it is perfectly normal to me. Drives Gary crazy!! (Which I secretly love :-) Now with books I am serious about, I would NEVER do this with like Harry Potter, The Twilight Series, and others. But then I have the problem of having to finish them to.day!! I get nothing done as I race to finish it.

Hmmm...off to play Lego Star Wars (hee hee)
